Delaware Valley Bichon Rescue
NEWS. . .

DVBR is currently looking for individuals who would be willing to help us with a monumental project we hope to undertake soon.  With a constant influx of more & more dogs, and a constant need for more foster homes, we have decided that it would be wonderful to have our own facility. A "safe house" if you will, where bichons who are in jeopardy can be safe until space becomes available in one of our wonderful foster homes. This "safe house" would not be meant as a long-term home, but rather a brief stop along the road to a foster home, and eventually, to a new permanent home.  Since making this dream become a reality will require significant funding, we are hoping to find an individual or group of individuals who are experienced at locating sources of funding such as grants, and then applying for those grants.  If you are a person with such expertise, know a person with such expertise, or have some other idea as to how we can turn our vision into a reality, please contact us! We'd love to hear from you. You can visit our website anytime at www.delawarevalleybichonrescue.org OR you can always reach me via email at susandare@comcast.net . We hope to hear from our supporters about this really worthwhile project! If this dream can become a reality it will enable us to help more dogs, and keep them safe during the times when we are experiencing a "crunch", with too many dogs needing to come in and not enough foster homes to accommodate them all.

We are sad to report that little Maxie, who was fostered by the Davol family in Danville, PA and then by the Tatham family in Brick, NJ has passed away. Poor little Maxie had severe rheumatoid arthritis that was too advanced to be helped by surgery. Had his family contacted us to request help earlier, when the disease was in its early stages, we COULD have helped little Maxie. Sadly, by the time he came to DVBR and we consulted with an orthopedic surgeon about his case, he was too far gone. It was agreed by all concerned that the most humane thing we could do for our little Maxie Boy was to end his misery. He was in significant pain with no hope of a decent quality of life. Rest in peace little Maxie . . . we all miss you terribly!

Other dogs who have successfully undergone major surgery since our last newsletter include:
  • BJ, who underwent bladder stone surgery & is living with her new family in Burlington, NJ.
  • Cammy, currently living with his foster family in Cinnaminson, NJ. Cammy had to undergo another procedure called "retinopexy" which is intended to prevent the retina from detaching in his one remaining "good eye". This was a preventative measure meant to save his vision & give him the best possible quality of life.
  • Bianca, who had a dental and also had a tumor removed, currently living in Barrington, NJ with her new family.
  • Baby, who is currently living with his foster family in Beverly, NJ and recently underwent surgery for a torn cruciate ligament. He's doing fine & almost as good as new!
  • Benny, currently in foster care in Boonton, NJ, may be undergoing eye surgery in the very near future as well.

As always, we never know who may be needing surgery or what sick dog awaits our help "right around the corner".
